Liminal Mask: Sumi
$25.00 – $28.00
Our “Sumi” mask is hand dyed using natural, carbon based ink giving a soft, mottled gray tint. A fugitive pigment, when exposed to environmental conditions, may be less permanent. Over time the color may change, lighten, darken or disappear. This mask is finished with black cork details.
All v2.0 masks are now 3 layers with a breathable natural silk inner layer. Recent studies have shown silk is not only hydrophobic and resistant to the entry of water but also antimicrobial, antiviral, and antibacterial because of the presence of copper.
Also shown is the new lanyard. Modeled after vintage military lanyards, it’s fully adjustable with natural cork fittings and tactical SF mini clasps. Finished with a decorative broach loop knot.
|For every mask purchased, we are donating 40 meals to The LA Regional Food Bank.

Liminality (from the Latin word līmen, meaning “a threshold”) is the quality of ambiguity that occurs in the middle stage of a rite of passage, when participants no longer hold their pre-ritual status but have not yet begun the transition to the status they will hold when the rite is complete. During a rite’s liminal stage, participants “stand at the threshold” between their previous way of structuring their identity, time, or community, and a new way, which completing the rite establishes.
